can you use home depo pea gravel in a tank?

Maybe a month or two if you're lucky. If you do put one in a 10 gallon longer than that all you are doing is throwing your money away because you'll probably find it floating.

I went to my fav breeder today and my grandmother spots the angelfish young,.. end result I have 6 1/2 dollar sized angels in my 10 gallon wile she gets a 60 gall up and running have cycled gravel from the 40 gallon tank I took down so can use that to quick cycle the tank...

Woah you didn't say you had 6. That's a lot. I would get that tank set up ASAP. Gravel may not be enough to cycle the tank, you may wish to look into getting a bottle of TSS too.

To answer your question, 10 gallon is not sufficient for a Angelfish, or 6 of them.

A sponge filter would not be sufficient for six angels, there simply isn't enough surface area for enough bacteria to live. I don't mean to sound harsh, but you really need to get that tank set up, or it may not end well for the fish.

what if I take the bio media from this( ) (using as bio filter) and put it in the new 60 gall? pluss cycled gravel?

shes doing a ugf would this safely cycle the tank ??

UGFs are generally avoided as they trap debris underneath, which can then decay further and mess with your water parameters.

I would use Tetra SS even with adding all of the other stuff to the 60. Good luck is all I think can be said at this point from what you are saying.

I added stress coat plus to try and comfort the fish they are coping well and happily drifting around should get them in the 60 gall in the net 2-3 days

TSS and Stress Coat are two completely different things. TSS, or Tetra SafeStart, is a bottle of the bacteria you're trying to add by using seeded filters. Instead of gravel or filters, you're simply pouring the bacteria into the tank.

Ohh I see. If you can get it that quickly, and get seeded gravel/filters and TSS, I think that would give your angels their best chance.

Get a big storage tub. I saw them on sale at Walmart the other day. See if you can sell her on a reverse UGF (power head pushes water up through gravel instead of pulling it down) combined with a HOB or small canister. That way she doesn't have to admit her way is wrong or outdated . if she goes for it, you can start cycling the new filter in the tub withher fish and all of the seeded media you can find. Good luck.

This is exactly what happens when people try to rush things, instead of having the patience and taking the time necessary to transition fish safely. It is SO not fair to the fish. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, makes me so mad. You can keep grasping at straws but, at the end of the day, they're still straws.

Get the bucket

Put in a heater

Use whatever seeded filter media you have to spare (do not bother with used tank water, gravel or decor)

Get her an HOB filter

I never recommend TSS, but this time I'm going to have to because I really fear for these angels.

This is a hot mess waiting to happen.

I disagree about the gravel, it does house a good amount of the bacteria in an established aquarium, and as the doubling rate of bacteria is about 24 hours any bacteria is a help.
