So we were at Wal-Mart last night (yes, yes, I know...). I NEVER purchase fish from Wal-Mart and usually avoid the fish section all together. Well the wee one wanted to look at the fish so I thought it couldn't hurt to let her look. This was the first visit in a while, but let me just so WOW! Not one dead fish, EVERYONE was completely healthy and the tanks had been aquascaped really nicely with live plants. Each tank had appropriate mixes of fish species, the information posted for each species was correct, and I even overheard an empolyee informing a potential new fish owner warning them away from some spotted green puffers they had saying that they were a highly specialized fish that needed a species only tank and wasn't best for a new aquarist. My draw audibly hit the floor! So I take a glance over at the bettas...again, WOW! Not only did they have some beautiful, healthy specimens, but those horribly teeny tiny cups were gone! They were still in cups (they haven't gotten that far yet) but they were (and yes, I actually busted out a tape measurer) in cups that were 6" across at the bottom and widened slightly as they got higher with 5" of water. They are such an improvement over those other cups! I really was shocked at this...
...and that leads me on to my second point....
I have yet another betta (that I happily purchased from Wal-Mart; my first fish from there). He is a gorgeous Crowntail, mainly black with some pretty irridescent blue on his fins and hints of red. Very pretty, and very healthy. Picked up one of their 10 gallon tank set-ups, used some old filter media and now he has a new home with me (no name as of yet). I will post pics as soon as I get a chance...and he will sit still for the camera.
