My 9 year old son brings home rocks for my tank all the time. (Realy cool ones sometimes) Today he brings me what appears to be an ancient hand ax. Hard to tell from the picture. Love to be able to authenticate this some how. I would love to see everyone else's interesting discoveries

That's cool I found this the other day

And over a year ago found what I believe is a mammoth tooth in the same general area. I too would love to authenticate them and get some history on them.

That's awesome. How many fossilized rocks you have in your tank

If there's a museum in your area they should have experts on hand who can at least tell you if they're human-made or not. Sometimes they have public events where you can bring your items to be authenticated! The one near me you just go in the employees' entrance and ask at reception

Intresting and nice guys. I am not an expert, but the one of CowBoYReX really looks like a prehistoric tool to me.

This thread reminded me that I had a "rock collection" when I was a lot younger and that I should probably look through the box under my bed again. I think there's a few fossils in there. I'll post pics when I get home this evening.

This is a fossilized rock with some snails in it I found here in Texas

Do you think it would be safe to put in my 75 gal?

Looking forward to them

Thanks Dave

This reminded me of this meteorite that my dad found when he was 17. He had a science professor test it and he found that it was mostly iron pyrite, or fools gold, but not sure where it came from or what the rest of it is. I've always wanted to put it in my tank, but didn't want to make it radioactive lol. Plus it's about 13 pounds

What I assume to be fossilized shells or something of the like

A piece of bone? I truly have no idea what these are. I acquired them when I was a little kid.

This one is the coolest. When put together it doesn't look like much, but apart...

I think it's a fern leaf.

Thanks! My uncle got me in to collecting years ago and it's been a long time since I've even looked. This weekend though I found a bunch of rocks hiking and re did my tank. It was fun to be looking for them again

I agree and as far as I can remember, which isn't far lol, I think I started in elementary school, they had a big pile of sea shells, rocks, fossils, and shark teeth and it just grew from there. I'll have to look tomorrow through some more of my oldies.

That's about when I started. I have shells too, and lots of small pieces of gemstone though they're in a bag separated from the rest of the rocks in the box so I'm not entirely sure where I got them. I'd love to keep.hunting but I'll be moving to the city in a few weeks so nature hikes are going to become few and far between

I also have some gemstones, mostly amethyst, that I got panning in the Smokey mountains.

I'm trying to figure where I got mine. Theres lots of different ones. I'm wondering if it wasn't one of those "pan for gemstones" attractions for little kids in vacation-y spots.
