Ancient Aquarium Hood

Hey guys,

So my tank is ancient. It was built in 2004, or so says the sticker on the hood.

I assume the bulb in it is the same. We bought it used from a LFS a LONG time ago and it remained unused for a good 6-7 years.

I'd like to change the bulb out, but my setup takes a T10 I guess. I tried a T8 and it didn't even fully light up, and the T12 was flashing.

What are my options? Can I change out the ballast to support a T-8? I don't know lighting very well.

Thanks

EDIT : let me clarify that T10 bulbs are impossible to come by up here in Canada. They seem uncommon in USA as well.

Is it a standard size hood? Can you just replace the hood with a T8 or T5? Alternately, you could go hoodless with a new inexpensive (relative I know) LED light.

I would rather not replace the hood, I need the kind that sits on the inside lip of the tank and they cost $80+.

If I can just replace a ballast or something that would be ideal.

What did the old bulb say on it, does it say on the hood the size you need. You could always order one offline.

Bulb is too old, no info remains.

I found old Perfecto hood light replacements on Pet Mountain for $30. I'll order one of those.

Before you order anything try putting a new starter in it first, that could be the only thing you need. And yes you can change the ballast to fit any bulb.

Too late

I'd really have no idea how to change the ballast. It is a small square too, unlike any I've ever seen
