anaubias plant??

I have a 10 gallon tank with 1 Halfmoon male betta. Sorta considering snails/shrimp. I have three decorations and 8 fake plants (yes I tested them with skin and pantyhose) I just have a regular light on my tank hood right now. Light is on for about 12 hours off for about 12 hours. I have 0 ammonia and nitrites and I try to keep it at 20 nitrates or less.

One of the decorations is a little bridge. Could I put a small Anubias plant on it so that it would attach to the decoration? I was thinking a real plant would be nice for my tank but nothing too specialized. I could also remove my fake Amazon sword plant if having a plant on gravel would be better. Please let me know!

I think an anubias would be beautiful! They grow easily and with low light. I'd suggest a plant growth bulb for your tank. Your Betta will love the live plant!

Does the bridge have a rough or smooth texture? Anubias is a beautiful plant that's very undemanding but I'm not sure it could get a grip on a smooth surface.

Anubias is a lowlight plant that will do fine with just the fish waste in the tank. You can just tie it to the bridge and the roots will eventually attach to the bridge, or you can use super glue to attach the plant to the bridge. Meanwhile if I haven't said it before than welcome to the forum and glad you joined us. Alison

Brizburk..I like the look of them He likes swimming around everything but I'd like to have at least one live plant for him. Should I get the plant growth bulb before or after I get an Anubias? Would I keep light on longer or shorter?

Aquaphobia..Its smooth but has a small hole the goes through it. Would it be better for me to remove the fake sword plant and put the anubias in the gravel? Or tie it to the bridge?

Aliray..Oh goodie! I want an easy plant for this tank. (ok I want easy plants for my bigger tank I want to get but still) What would I use to tie the plant to the bridge? I'd be sacred of using superglue in the tank. (first tank) HI back!! I figured I would join cuz I kept coming back to the info section of fishlore and I want my tank and fish to be healthy and happy!

Nope, the Anubias will not be happy in the gravel Just tie it to the bridge with cotton thread and hopefully by the time the thread rots, the anubias will have grown enough roots to hang on!

Anubias can grow in very low light so don't worry about the bulb too much. If you can't find a plant growth bulb then look at cool white, daylight or full spectrum bulbs. They'll work fine and are both easier to get and cheaper

I think you can change lighting at any time. I love the natural look of the marineland advanced LED. My opinion. But I'm not as experienced as aquaphobia. For my own anubias plants I want to have increased growth so I'm upgrading to a lighting system that is 80000k. My current is 70000k. So much goes into lighting.

Are you sure you haven't got 1 too many zeros up there?

Lol. Quite possibly. Shall I add a few more?

LOLno, 7000K is about right for the colour temperature. 70000 is more like the lifespan in hours of an LED bulb

Aqua phobia..ok I'll head out to get some thread this week and hopefully will get plant by weekend. I'll also look for light bulbs for my hood. Need to find out how I'd change it as well. Hehe. First tank.

Brizburk. Yeah need to find out how to change bulbs in a tank hood. I don't know how to do that and this is my first tank.

What kind of bulb does it take? Post a picture of your hood if you want help

Aqua phobia..umm it's an Aqueon deluxe hood for their 10 gallon tank. Says it's a T8 bulb. I'm posting from my phone but will get on my laptop tonight and see if I can post a pic of my hood. If it helps I got it from Petco

T8 bulbs are still fairly common though you might have to do some looking to find the right size and colour temperature. I suspect that your bulb is an 18 inch.

Aquaphobia..I have seen plant growth, full daylight spectrum, and another type of the T8 bulbs at my Petco. Got an Anubias nana and tied it to my bridge. Got an Anachris too. Got silk plants and put one of three in. Should I replace all fake with silk right away or should I wait a couple days in between?

Do you have to replace the plastic plants? I would do it slowly in case too many changes at once stress your Betta.

Unless the plastic plants are causing issues, they should be fine. I frequently move things around to provide more exploration options.

Aquaphobia..I am guessing it was a plastic plant that caused his tail rips. Ok I do plan on keeping his favorite one as well as a betta one and a fake Amazon sword.

Brizburk..I am guessing it was a plastic plant that injured him. Ohh he might enjoy me moving stuff around as long as I don't completely rearrange everything at once.

In my opinion you can't do wrong with live plants, but I agree that a slow switch is better

Aquaphobia..I plan on doing mostly to all live plants in my next tank . Added a second silk plant for under the filter. I have the Anubias whose roots grow everyday! And Anachris one piece which has decided to float around.
