Hello everyone and welcome to the build. I'm sure some have read the title and are asking themselves what is he talking about. So before we go any further heres the back story. It was time for my upgrade and a buddy gave me his 180g RR tank. I cleaned it all up and built my stand put it in the house and filled it up. Next day I cracked the back glass. Yay that's the end of that tank. Wife told me I'm not buying another tank atleast for a year so I got her to agree to this scratched up 125 that a buddy had and I picked it up and set it up. Since there's no chance for an upgrade atm I'm just making this tank work. Also have a dedicated "fish room" that's a storage area/sump pump area under the stairs

Thanks it has the potential to be a show tank but if you seen it in person it has huge scratches across the front glass. I also don't like the front to back dimension. Since my favorite fish are tangs then I needed atleast a 6' tank until I get my new tank. Most likely the new tank will be 180-220g. Ideally itd be 6x3x2 which is the dream lol.

That's awesome. That dedicated fish room really gives you options. Convincing my wife for a 125 to house a few tangs is currently in progress, but more than likely it will be at least a tear before we get it.

Lol it would give me more options if my wife even remotely liked the hobby. Every option I have to run by her then practically beg. She makes reefing difficult. Good luck on your 125. I'll tell you from experience it's just not enough front to back space though. I need atleast 24" front to back 30-36 being the best. I have the opportunity to possibly get a 220 Peninsula, but I'm not sure I like the overflow box he installed. It'd be a cheap upgrade though. I'd give him my 93 rimless cube from the garage and a small amount of cash for it

Sorry just seeing this. Yeah his tanks been running for a little over a year maybe longer, but me and him always buy coral and then frag them and give them to each other so some of those were ones I gave him lol. Now his tank is empty and most likely hes going to start up a smaller tank.

Decided I was going to make my own fish food Thursday night so picked up some clams and whole shrimp. Took the shell off the shrimp and threw everything in the food processor. Fed the tank alittle and they ate everything pretty quickly. Heres some pictures

How are you liking the powerheads? I've got a 125 with softies and a few LPS currently and I'm thinking about the same powerhead combination. Would you recommend them? Do you ever run them in a pulsed or alternate mode than 100%?

I like the powerheads because they are cheap and are controllable. I run them on else at 100% so basically it is always changing the speed and pulse. I don't like that the performance is reduced when they get a little dirty. Same thing with the return pump. I run the dc12000 on 100% and the flow sucks. But they are cheap and that's what I can afford. If I had my choice id run mp40s and the vectra pump. I really can't complain though because I've had most of these pumps for longer than 2 years and they're still running fine. Heard a lot of people say they die after 1 year

I use the maxspect. Dual with very easy to program settings. I have one constant on only 10% and the other alternating

Shutting this tank down. Going back to a nano. Currently don't have the time or interest for taking care of this big of a tank. Fish room is getting reworked to accommodate some much needed improvements. Lost quite a few fish to this ich outbreak and now coral are dying from unknown causes. When I break down all equipment will be cleaned and checked to make sure everything is operating properly. Most rock will be acid washed.
