An idea for feeding snails with less mess...

Does anyone on here put their snail food on a dish or plate in the tank so it makes less of a mess in their gravel? My snails eat their food, but sometimes the snail jello still 'sheds' some of the powdered eggshell so I've always done a quick daily siphon each morning. Now that I have my babies running free in my tank, I'm a little nervous to siphon so vigorously that often...

I have a terra cotta planter base that has only ever been used in my aquarium, do you think the snails would be too upset if I fed them off that? With the amount of snails I have in my large tank, I'll end up getting a second one and feeding them from both if it works. Just want to make sure it's safe before I give it a try.

I would think that should work just fine Do you ever feed them veggies, like a slice of zucchinI squash or salt free canned green beans? You could also put those in that dish and stick a fork in the squash to keep it on the bottom. My nerites love squash. Alison

I use a shrimp dish. They are very tiny and work great! But it took over a month to get them!

My mystery snails love zucchini. The only mess they make with that is the seeds, which I net out.
Your plate idea sounds safe. It may still makea mess if your fish kick the food all around. Give it a try tho.

I have a snail-only tank and the only food they seem to carry around is the green beans I give them...hopefully it'll be easier! I keep kale, zucchini, and things like that on a veggie clip and that keeps those clean for me. I'll try one dish tonight and if it helps, I'll pick up a second

Funny thing is, when I was using my bottle to trap pest snails, my baby mysteries loved going in to it as well to feed. After I got rid of all my pest snails, and the mysteries remained, I used that bottle the same way. It was nice because all of the waste and food stayed INSIDE and it was much easier to keep all of the babies accounted for.
I did the same thing when I had 60 baby plecos!
