Try AmQuel Plus. In the meantime do a water change.

You really should have begun stocking more slowly. The beneficial bacteria cannot keep up with the sudden amount of ammonia brought to the tank by the fish.

Please be patient!

Hello there! Welcome to Fishlore!

It sounds like you may have a few things going on here. How long has your tank been cycled? What are your water parameters? ie: Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates?

If you haven't familiarized yourself with the Nitrogen cycle, please read this article which will probably explain a lot of what's happening with your tank.
https://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

0.25 for ammonia is really not that high for fish to die off suddenly like that in such a short time, especially platy's, which are pretty hardy fish. You didn't put that many in a 55 gallon tank.

Hope you find your answer and if there's anything else, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hello and Welcome to Fish Lore!

Sorry to hear about your fish loss.

Until the tank has cycled or regained the cycle, daily water changes are necessary with the addition of a water conditioner to detox Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate. I would recommend Prime or Amquel + as these detox all 3 whereas Ammo lock only detoxes Ammonia. However, the Ammonia Lock will work for now.

Keep up with the daily water changes until you have readings of 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites and under 20 Nitrates. At this point you have cycled or regained the cycle. Your tank may be experiencing a minI cycle due to the addition of new fish, assuming the tank was cycled to begin with. In this case, hopefully a few days of water changes will get you back on track. It may take longer but I can't say for certain.

Best wishes for your tank and fish. Hang in there!

Ken
