It could be one of the following,
-you lost your cycle
-something in your tank is causing it to be off-balance/producing more ammonia than your beneficial bacteria can handle
-your ammonia test kit gave an inaccurate read

Can you give more details? How old is this tank, is it cycled, what are your nitrates and nitrites, did you do anything to it recently? An established tank should never see ammonia. At a higher pH, it’s more likely the ammonia being read is in its ionized form, ammonium, NH4, since the test kit reads both. Ammonium is less harmful than ammonia, but both are still extremely harmful and there shouldn’t be any in your tank. For now, definitely do an immediate water change, but that won’t solve the root cause to what’s causing the ammonia
