is there any way to make a sword plant send out stems/runners with plantlets on it? I have tried looking online and seen couple ppl say turning lights off for 3 days will start it, has anyone tried it or know of another ways?

It is true!
I had to turn off my lights for few days to comfort a sick fish. The tank is sitting in the basement, totally dark. I have over 15 mature swords in that tank. At least 10 of them sent our runners shortly after the lights restarted. Hard to believe that it was just a coincidence.

I bought a Sword online and it came with a runner or two with plantlets on it. I'm just not sure what to do with them now. They're growing roots in the water column.

then you can cut them off soon as they have few roots and plant them into substrate,

Any idea what they'll do if left alone/still attached to the mother plant?

they will just grow slowly and produce more roots if u want to leave them on mother plant u can help sink them so they can root in substrate to they will slowly sink as they get bigger

I appreciate the reply, I'll mull it over and figure something out. The mother plant is close to 2' tall, I'm not sure I need more of that, lol.

I accidentally got one to send out a bunch of runners. I pulled the plant out to glue it to a rock and forgot about it for a few hours. It barely recovered but all the old leaves grew roots and extra leaves in the water column. May be able to do something similar by getting the water level low enough for long enough.

I have some big amazon swords that send out runners when they themselves are growing well and I am ferts on a regular basis. As soon as I slow down on the ferts, the plants wait for aprox. 6 months without new runners.
