Amazon Bought Glossostigma Hemianthus Callitrichoides Seeds

I bought some of these seeds this post will be a running update of my progress with them as I try to grow them in a 10 gallon aquarium. I know there’s a lot of rumors about if these seeds are what they say they are. I really don’t care either way as long as I can get them to grow and stay alive. I looked on YouTube and couldn’t find any great videos that followed through and had quality video. Supposedly these seeds also die off after about a month so I’ll see what if that is the case. (I suspect iron deficiency from what I have looked up and I plan on adding ferts with iron after they sprout)

Day 0 was Saturday (Two days ago) making this day 2 of planting

These are the instructions on how to plant the seeds off amazon and I did things a bit differently.

I used Flourite substrate this stuff needs rinsed out of the bag I did some rinsing but not completely. I also did not spread the substrate completely evenly over the tank (going for a landscape look if it works out)

I filled the substrate with water stopping just after water was over the lowest points of the substrate.

Instead of spraying every day I put plastic wrap on the tank to trap moisture and heat. My room is about 70 degrees.

Both of these photos are day 2. (I did not take any when I was setting up) Sorry about the shadow on the second photo, I had to stretch the plastic wrap to get a clear picture of what was going on. I have not noticed any difference in the tank from day 1 to now.

After they germinate I will add water. I plan on using Flourish excel, Flourish and Envy. Currently there is no light I have one coming and it should arrive tomorrow. It is the NICREW ClassicLED Plus 30-36” light. I know it’s not going to fit correctly but I wanted this light so I can use it on a 12 gallon long I plan on building or if I ever upgrade to a 20 gallon long. I just spend the $10 on a dollar per gallon sale at a pet supplies plus and didn’t want to invest in two lights at the moment.

If there is anything I have forgotten to include or you would like to know please ask. If you have any experience with these or the real plant that would be great. Any other thoughts, comments, critiques, or ideas please comment!

Day 5 I started to fill with distilled water. I will be adding water from an established tank once I do a water change.

Day 11. I am going home from college for spring break. There are no fish in the tank and it doesn’t have a filter running so it should be fine. I have the light on a timer the next post will be what I come back to after 8 days.

I’d throw in atleast an air stone or the water will go stagnant.

Day 35?
Anyway at this point as you can see it is now a plant storage tank with a friend’s (The_fishy) impulse buy. I can’t blame her the dude is just so darn cute. I’m letting her keep this little fella here till she gets a tank set up for him. I’m also using it to grow/ store some plants I’ve been collecting for a 20 gallon long set up. I’m actually going to try to remove some of the carpet from this to my Fluval flex 9 and take some rosette sword off shoots and plant them in here. So there will be some shuffling between a water change in the Fluval.

HI Maxxx

Not sure what species you received but I can assure you that those leaves do not belong to Hemianthus callitrichoides nor do they appear to be Glossostigma elatinoides. There are rumors on the forums that the seeds are Hygrophila polysperma. In the United States Hygrophila polysperma is on the noxious weed list and as such cannot be sold, transported, traded. Notice how the second and third set of leaves are no longer 'rounded' but elongated?

This is what Hemianthus callitrichoides looks like

Are there any aquatic plants that actually drop seeds? There aren't any I can think of.

In it’s submersed form? barclaya is one. Mostly every plant that can grow emersed has a flower(not all)

I’m honestly not sure what they are. They definitely are not the Glosso tho. I like how they look so I’m going to keep them for now. Whenever I tear down a tank I’ll make to dispose of them correctly.

I did just transport some to this tank for an easy carpet.

Unfortunately I've taken down the tank and it didn't root so well after moving it and trying to clean the tank but I did give some to a friend of mine who has had better success with it. I'll upload a picture when I get the chance.
