Amazed by what I saw at PetCo.....

I was at petco the other day and it must have a new manager or something.

There were little hand written notes on the glass of a lot of the tanks with usefull and thoughtful info about the fish.

I snapped a few pics for proof.

It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

well I guess there is a first for everything. It is really nice to know that at least there is some petco employees out there trying to give some beneficial advice.

Good to see, unfortunately I don't think this kind of fish retailing will catch on.....

Great find

I was expecting to NOT be amazed by another story of bad advice from Petco. The only time I really AM amazed is when I see them cleaning tanks.
But, you got me, I was surprised! lol

Our Petco completely redid its fish department a few years ago. It's fabulous now. Lots of info, such as above, at both this particular Petco and also my fave LFS, who also puts how big the fish will get!!!! Knock me over with a feather......

At both our Petco and PetSmart they have little cards with some basic info about the fish, but I've found Petco's to be better and even so, still not as good as the pictures above. Maybe it's a movement that will start spreading!

Yesterday our cashier knew more about what we were buying than the guy in the fish department lol.

It's really nice to see because knowledge is the key. There is a lot of people who misinform so it is nice to see the effort at least. My local petcos don't offer any information.

Sometimes at these stores they might have two people in the fish department, but one is covering another person's break (cashier)... at least that is the way it can be at the store I work at. So one of them might be more knowledgeable about fish while another may be better with reptiles, or something else in the deparment.

But that is really neat that the PetCo did that!

I wish all stores would do that.

While I think it's great to see the effort to educate potential buyers, I still have an issue. They are claiming that 5G per goldfish is perfect.

my local petco does that as well, I think it has become a corprate policy. Ill take it either way thou.

Catsma....they said 5 gallon per inch. So 3" fish gets 15 gallons.

yes but that's to be applied to every inch the fish gains. So 4" gets 20, 5" gets a 25 and so on. In all honesty, its actually being a bit liberal. Not bad though.

Oops. Teach me to try to read/view s from my cell phone. Glad you caught it. Thanks!

I do agree I think the 5inch may be a bit but take what ya can get. It may also really depend on the fish itself as well, some are much larger than others and the general populous has no idea about these things.
