Amateur moves

What are all your amateur things you've done. This is partially for fun and partially to remind us that we were all a beginner once and have done just as bad (And in my case more) things to their tanks. Okay, SOME of mine: never changing water in my tank for 3 months at a time and having the water about half full because I didn't care (When I just started), getting a single pictus cat for a 55 gallon tank, getting a molly for a 10g, putting my 55g tank in a room with one side completely windows and another with some windows (Can't move it, so I have to put a bedsheet cover over my tank), and betta+3.5 gallon tank, you do the math.


What did you do when you were just beginning an know better now?

 

Hmmmmmm that was a long time ago(possibly before you were born), so don't remember much. I just know i have always had the Moves Like Jagger!

 

Not myself, but 10 years ago when we started with fish my husband insisted on adjusting Ph all the time. He went though so much of the Ph down and Perfect 7 Ph stuff. He also overcleaned- every week the glass was scrubbed, gravel vacuumed and monthly the filter inserts were changed. No wonder we had so many problems. When we restarted the tank this year he said it was my job because it was too much work. I know realize all the mistakes we made and how much extra work he made for himself.

 

If you go into a store and they dont have your brand, don't buy a different brand and expect it to work. I made that mistake way too many times. The aquarium industry is super weird.. pretty much every company has both amazing and horrible products

 

The worst thing i can think of at the top of my head was one time i used a bit of soap to clean an empty tank and didn't rinse it near as thoroughly as i thought i did. Beyond that, i didn't always make the best stocking combos, but other than the catfish that ate all the tetras, i got pretty look lucky overall. Probably could have done water changes more often, but once a month didn't seem too bad on the fish.
