Amano shrimp

Hello all. Recently got a few Amano shrimp for my tank. I know they tend to pick stuff from the bottom and other surfaces in the tank, but what do they eat exactly? I know they like algae wafers but when I dropped one in there recently, they didn't seem to be that interested in it.

They eat detritus, algae, diatoms (not preferably), and just about any supplements you give them. If you recently got them they may just be adjusting to a new environment. Give them some time to settle in and they’ll be absolute pigs that will eat anything you give them

They will eat mostly anything give to them. They even steal shrimp pellets.

They eat anything. Period

I think it’s easier to come up with things they won’t eat. Like mine won’t eat rocks or plastic.

Most importantly, they don’t eat live plants or live fish. They might eat dying plants/fish, but they won’t hurt anything living

I agree completely with lojack!

I've quoted before a brilliant comment that someone wrote on here (I wish that I could remember who!)
*Amanos are always eating...the only time that they stop eating is to look for more food....* Sums them up perfectly.
Re the question, my suggestion is to opt for smaller pellets, Amanos dont like to share, you'll never see them gathered round an algae wafer in the way that other shrimp do. Feeding time is definitely 'every shrimp for itself'
Mine can sometimes barely swim due to the amount of little pellets that they're trying to carry off to a quiet corner, it's hysterical to watch.

Just give them a little time to settle, they're pretty hardy shrimp so should acclimate well.
And finally, I'm sure that every shrimpkeeper in here, like me, would recommend getting some Bacter ae which helps create biofilm and is loved by all type of shrimp.

I disagree... when there’s a saddled female I hardly see the males eat until they find her. I’ve watched them land on a shrimp pellet, something they absolutely love, then ignore it and continue their hunt for the female. Meanwhile, the female’s just munching on all the food the males didn’t want

Yes!
I totally agree with your disagreement (if you see what I mean!!)
I forgot about the extremely determined desire to find 'that' female...it's something that DEFINITELY makes them forgot about their food!
(...for a little while at least...☺)
