Bought an Amano shrimp last night. This morning he had already molted.. is this normal for a him being in a brand new environment? Good sign bad sign?

Normal new shrimp behavior. Most newly added shrimp and crayfish will molt within a few days of being introduced.

Definently, when I bought my first Amanos, they were molting like crazy. Every day I was finding a gift from them. I tell ya, growing like crazy

Keep the shell in the tank. It will leak healthy minerals into the water.

It won't leak minerals to the water. The shell keeps them and some microorganism live in them which will be eaten by the shrimp. The shells are useful for shrimplets too.

As above but will add that even water changes can trigger molting!
Make sure the shrimp has places to hide - the exoskeleton is soft after moulting and instinct will make it want to hide away until it hardens up .
