I was thinking about getting an amano or two for my 10 gallon male betta tank. A lot of algae has built up and it could use a deep clean. If things go south I want to have a plan. Could he be put in a 29 gallon that is kept at 81F with:

    1 docile gbr
    3 gouramis
    8 cardinals
    8 rummynose

If I got one do you recommend QT?

You could try it. If they're large enough, they might be left alone. I didn't QT mine. I just acclimated them as I do with fish and put them in.

    Thanks
What do they eat once the algae is gone? I have some bottom feeder tabs

I feed my amanos veggie wafers and fresh veggies such as zucchini and summer squash. I put them in there to eat the diatoms, thinking it'd take them a while. Nope. Cleaned it all in 10 days. Check out these before and after shots.

Thanks! I got them because they looked more realistic. They're NatGeo brand at PetSmart.

I'm not a fake plant fan but I do have to say NatGeo makes some realistic ones!

Really? There is a tank with fish infected with ich at petco and that is the only tank with amanos

Hmm. Well inverts aren't susceptible to ich but I'd be worried about some free swimmers getting into your tank when you introduce the shrimp.

What if i QT for 14 days? Wouldnt the spores die by then without a host?

That might work. But I'd wait for someone else to confirm.

Well I ended up getting them. They are in QT now. Hopefully someone will come along and give me their opinion about the whole ich situation. In the meantime, what do you do to keep the shrimp from escaping from the cut out holes in the lid of the tank? I shoved some filter floss in there for now but it doesnt look great.
