Am I Being Paranoid Or Was I Stupid?

I got a used 30 gallon from my neighbor this morning, and rinsed it out and then set it up ( I had cycled media already and after a tank exploded yesterday I needed a heated place for my betta). Was I stupid for not sterilizing it with bleach? My neighbor said the fish that were in it are healthy (she's been in the hobby for like 20 or so years). During a conversation with a friend he asked if I sterilized and I said no, and he said that was a bad idea. Is it worth it to tear it all down and sterilize it, or will it be ok?

Too late now. You should be fine

 

I wouldn't worry about it now since it's all set up with the betta but if were to happen again it would be a good idea to sterilize.
Everyone might not agree with that opinion though.

 

Yeah my friend was worried because his 55 gallon got myco (which can live even on fully dry tanks)
