Always be prepared for impulse buys

Made an impulse buy today, haha. Saw a gorgeous Betta today at Petco. A gold and red dragon scale male. Not sure of his tail type yet.

I always keep some seeded media in my tanks, and I had an extra 10 gallon with a filter, heater and lid, so now he has a fully cycled tank and room to swim!

I had flake plants for him already but I went ahead and picked up a couple decorations bc my fiancé has always wanted an "Asian" themed tank.

The tank is a little cloudy from the sand, but I'll upload pictures of the Betta himself tomorrow once it clears up.

Is it still impulsive if you're prepared?

Haha, true. But I usually keep a 10 gallon up for qt. and since I have an empty 20 gallon I figure I'll just use that for a qt now

I impulsively bought a betta and the poor thing had to suffer through fin rot and a fish-in cycle, now I know better

Here's a picture of the little guy, he's not sure what to think of all the space, so he's a little shy. Not used to a current either, but he'll adapt.

BTW his fins don't end where the color ends, it's hard to see, but they're rounded off by clear fins at the end

My fiancé named him jörmungand (YOUR-mun-gand)

After the world snake who killed Thor in the mythology

He is gorgeous. I can just barely see the clear part of his tail in front of the plant. I have never seen a betta that looked like that, no wonder you had a weak moment Alison

Thank you aliray I usually try not to impulse buy but I talked myself into this one

I would have too and I have already said no more betta fish. I have enough with my two tanks. And the three empty 10 gal tanks are staying that way. Alison

He looks like a rose petal or something similar? (He is a beauty still, hopefully he gets used to his tank and starts showing off for you.)

He's really cool looking. And I like his name. I learned about Jörmungand a couple months ago when I read the new Rick Riordan book (Percy Jackson author).

Not sure about the rose petal, since he has the clear ends its hard to make out the shape, I'll get better pictures once he settles in and I can get him to flare.

And my fiancé is really in to mythology and gods and all that "his" other Betta is names colossus, some kind of sun god I think.

I don't know much about all that lol.

The Norse myths make for fascinating reading! I highly recommend them

Admittedly have not read the thread, but just saw this picture while perusing.

These are the best photos I could get of him. I've never had a Betta that's so hard to photograph! At least you're able to see the clear ends more
In these photos.
