My Lfs has recently stocked some juvenile altos and I really like the look of them. Im fairly new to the species and I am wondering what other fish I can keep them with. Is it possible to keep them with malawis? Id like him to pair with any off this list:
    Yellow labs
    Cobalt blue cichlids
    5 bar cichlids

I wouldn't keep them with any on the list.
Also alto should really be kept in tank atleast 100g

Are there any malawis that you can keep them with
The yellow labs I've kept before were very peaceful and from what I've heard so are altos' I thought that theyd go well together

Another question I was wondering is that most people seem to keep two or three types of cichlid in groups of 4 or 5. Is this necessary or can you just mix and match as long as their compatible with each other?

Depends which cichlids we are talking about

    Mbuna or possibly other africans

Depend on the exact mbuna but they need to be kept in proper groups to avoid aggression.

But if you overstocked the tank anyway wouldn't that reduce the aggression as well, no matter the specie as long as there compatible

Nope overstocking doesn't really help, having them in the correct ratios helps more.

Ok I see now what cichlids would you be able to keep an alto with then?

Other Tanganyikan cichlids but like I said you will need a bigger tank. First

I thought that was only for a pair of altos, I was told a single alto could be kept in a tank of at least 60g
