Allergic To Bloodworms?

Hi, here's a weird one....everytime I touch dried bloodworms I have a horrible bout of itchy eyes, mucous membranes and my nose stuffs up.
Anyone else?

 

I just touch frozen bloodworms and it itches/irritates my finger and makes it throb. Other than that, no problems.

Yes bloodworm allergies are a very real danger. I don't want to be a fear monger but if your body is telling you it's allergic to bloodworms then listen to your body and dump them in the trash (wrapped in plastic bag). Google bloodworm allergies and you will see it can cause serious medical complications if you are highly sensitive. People tend to become more sensitive as time goes on ... Haven't read of any cases where people "got over it".

I like my hobbies but I don't want to die from anaphylactic shock due to my hobbies. There are plenty of other foods you can feed your fish that are good and won't kill you. Repashy, for instance. Black worms are another. Freeze dried foods are especially bad since they can form fine dust... Frozen foods are safer that way (less likely for you to inhale it). I would wear gloves if you think you are sensitive to any of the fish food ingredients. Stay safe!

 

Thank you so much for your reply. I hadn't really given it much thought other then being annoyed at the discomfort, but you are exactly right. I seem to react quite severely with very little contact, so I believe I will take your advice and dump them. I'm going to be culturing live food soon anyway. Take care, and happy aquariuming.

I personally won't touch blood worms with my bare hands. I either use tweezers or dump just enough into the lid to give to the tank. (I use the lid so I don't accidently over pour into my tank).
