All Excited, Then...

So I bought a small co2 system (24oz. bottle, good regulator, nice diffuser, and drop checker) got all excited when they showed up today. Was going to set everything up today, and then it hit me....

I completely forgot to buy a bubble counter. The closest place that carries them is about 65 miles away. I was wondering if I could use a DIY bubble counter in the meantime until I can make the drive to get a real one?

I wouldn't waste my time trying to construct one. If you are able to connect the system without one just go for it.
You have a drop checker, in the short term you can just use that to check whether you are overdosing or underdosing and adjust the regulator accordingly.
Start on the low side, just open the regulator so that you can barely detect the COs coming from the diffuser (assuming it's the type where you can actually see it). Give it 24 hours and look at the drop checker. That will tell you if your dosage is correct; if not adjust the regulator slightly and try again. A bubble counter certainly makes life easier when it comes to adjusting the regulator.

Andy S well I am going to have the regulator hooked up to solenoid, so I might just chance it. I will most likely be heading down there Monday and I might do what you recommended.

Well if you are going to be able to get the bubble counter on Monday I would just leave it till then; is 2 days really going to make a difference?

Andy S not really, however, I just tested the regulator and even with the adjustment valve completely off there is a small leak. So I have to hold off anyway.
