How long does it usually take for a tank to grow algae?

it depends on several factors, the most important being sunlight. Are you trying to grow algae?

It depends. Do you want it to grow?

Anyhow-it depends on-
-your phosphates
-ammonia, nitrite and nitrate
-lighting hours and intensity (how many watts per gallons)
-if sun light reaches it
-your filtration
-plants
-types of fish
-when fish get added
-water temperature
And many more, some people may get algae within the first week of the tank being set up, and some tanks may never get it at all.

sorry guys... I went camping for the week, I was just wondering how long it takes because I wanted to get a catfish but was told that the algae wafers I would have to feed them can be bad and can make a mess so I wanted to wait until I got algae.
