how do prevent it, i have a lot of bubbles so the splash created gets onto the lid, and then the light helps create algae,

You can't prevent it really. Just wipe it off each week with a sponge. That's all I do. :)

well i tried something the last few weeks and it seems to help, i put a little algae control on a paper towel and then wiped the glass on my lid with the towel. it seems to prevent the algae from growing. actually i bet 90% of the glass doesn't have algae on it

Is the algae control product made for aquarium use? If so, nice solution. If not, be careful of the chemicals that may be in it that can harm your fish ;)
