Hey Guys,

I am currently setting up and cycling a 40 gallon aquarium, just wanted to know if it would be okay for a relatively young bristlenose pleco to be kept in a 10 gallon with my betta and a school of tetras for a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

It's a risky idea because you also have a betta in there, and it's a 10 gallon tank. So, I wouldn't do it.

I would try to wait for the the tank to cycle.

BN plecos are poop machines.

I wouldn’t permanently put a bristlenose in anything smaller than a 20 gallon long.

If you but the bn pleco and the new tank breaks or the cycle stalls, then you will have to keep the pleco in for longer which will be harmful for all of the inhabitants.

Also, the stress from moving the pleco from store to 10 gallon to 40 gallon may be too much for the pleco.

If you don't already have the BN you may want to wait until the cycle is done and you have moved your other fish out of the 10 gallon. That way you can quarantine the BN in the 10 gallon. It will be OK in the 10 gallon long enough to be sure it is healthy before you put it in with the fish you already have.

She said it before I could.

If you already have the fish, I would put in a cycled 10 before an uncycled 40.
