Albino barb sick and dying.... Not sure what to do......

Not sure what's wrong with him/her. As long as I have had this one, its always been the "shy" one. Lately its been hiding more and more. No red gills, but you can tell it doesn't want to swim and often its on its side, just floating about at time.....

Actually, its gotten quite skinny compared to my other barbs. It did eat today though.....

My water parameters have not changed -
0/0/5

No new introduction to the tank ( with the exception of the mystery snail a few days ago from my other tank )

What are some of the ailments that causes this?

Thanks!

I was just reading that parasites, a species or two of roundworms in particular, can cause that if they're living in the intestines. Fish eats okay but continues to get thinner.

How do they get them if not from other fish in the tank? How should I treat it? I guess i'd better get to the store tomorrow - everythings closed now
I did a 50% water change even though I just tested and the water is fine. I haven't changed the water in about a week....

It doesn't look like a water problem.
It occurs to me that the snail may have brought it...but sometimes fish come with small infestations that don't get to be a problem until later.

Well the snail has only been in the tank one day and the barb has been acting weird for at least 3 to 4 days. I haven't really seen it much as it tends to hide. I can tell its very weak - I think I will try and catch it and put it in the breeder net I have until I can get to the store tomorrow. At least this way no one else will pick at it.

Is it hanging out with the other tigers? Are they showing any aggression towards it? It may have been rejected from the school. Basically a death sentence.

Its very possible as this one was always the "loner" - all the other barbs hung out together although I don't recall seeing them "pick" on this one any more than the usual "barb" behavior ( they randomly pick on each other )
Like I mentioned, this one always hid and I would only see it at feeding time

sounds like an omega of the group, you can try treating it for parasites, though if this ends up being just loner syndrome then it won't help. Still, I would QT and treat.

Thanks for the info.
Sadly, he died over night.
What makes it worse is not knowing "Why"

Just wish I knew why he died - he just got really skinny in a matter of days

It's difficult to know.
