I have read so many articles about airstone and plants some of them tell that airstones help the plants to grow other say that it does good to the surface only. What do you guys believe ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Airstones Provide oxygen in general for all things in the tank. They honestly do both. However, airstones are not typically needed with good filtration and good stocking. I believe they do add to the activity level of the fish though.

Air stones help with gas exchange by disturbing the surface of the water. That might be useful to plants after lights are out. And they look nice (if you like bubbles .. I like bubbles). They aren't necessarily needed, however.

I hope you have better luck than I. I have a hard time finding some (I wanted a wall) that aren't broken already in the package.

I run 3 airstones in my 55 gallon (48 inches long by 24 inches high). I have one on each end and one in the middle. All of them on the bottom toward the back. I could be wrong but I think airstones are necessary in a tank this deep. I fear that the water will get too stale at the bottom with just the movement the filters provide. I consider them extra insurance for my water pets. and I like bubbles

To tell you the truth I don't like bubbles but I can see more active my fish when the airstone is on but the water movement is pretty decent for such a small aquarium I have (25g).
Thank all of you for your response, I rally appreciate it. Sorry for my bad English I am not native speaker

You are very welcome. Your English is very good. In fact if you hadn't said anything I never would have known that English isn't your native language.

I think I will leave my airstone as it is down the filter and leave the bubbles to be guided from the water movement. I think it is better by this way because they stay more time under the water.

I have an air filter and an air stone as well as a regular filter in my 5 gallon (the regular one is cycling so I run both simultaneously) but because the air filter is so noisy I turn it off at night and back on again in the morning. Even if their light is on my guppies get much more still and quiet when the air filter and airstone are turned off! I initially thought it was because the parameters changed due to the half-cycled filter but I tested and it's all ok. It's just the airstone makes them more excited and active

That's what came to mind when you said you liked bubbles I couldn't help myself.

You speak English way better than some native English speakers. That's for certain.

The first part is correct but gasexchange during the night means that the level.of CO2 (which plants produce during the night and is used partly the next day to grow and produce O2) is lowered that way.

So an airtstone is more effective during the day but isn't effective for plantgrowth if it is ran during the night !
