Air stone question.

I was wondering if an air stone is needed for my tank. I have a 20 long and it has some low light plants in it but the majority of my plants are fake. The plants seem to be doing just fine, but I've read it helps put a little CO2 in the water which will help the plants. My question is my fish were way more active with the air stone off so is it really needed?

It can actually gas off CO2 and in that respect is worse for the plants. As long as your filter is breaking the water to aerate the water for the fish, I wouldn't bother adding an air stone.
