Hello! I have two tanks in which I replaced my old air pumps and lines with new ones...(petco air pumps). I have been noticing some white "slime" on the air lines, it looks almost like a "murky" sock. There are also some brown spots on the line as well... what is it? and is it bad??

THANKS!!!

Good morning,

I think what you are experiencing is completely normal. The white may be a build up of detritus or possibly the beginning of algae growth. The brown is more than likely Diatoms. Neither of which are harmful.

Airline tubes do not stay clear for long.

Okay, thanks!! It's just weird because I have never had this problem before??!? I normally use tubing that I get at "Ace Hardware" because it's cheaper, yet has a much thicker wall, so it lasts longer. But a few months ago I decided to get two new air pumps and use the tubing that came with the "Petco."

THANKS FOR THE REPLY!!!!

Good morning,

I switched from clear air line tubing to black tubing. Now it just blends in with the black back ground. I also got the black tubing from PetCo.
