Air Pump To Simulate Current?

Larry O'Donnell

Hey all,

I am contemplating picking up a few hillstream loaches for my 30long. From the research I have done, they really like current and cooler highly oxygenated water.

I don’t have the room for more hardware in the tank as I am currently running a 30HOB, small foam filter and bubble wall.

Do you think that with some strategically placed airlines and air stones I would be able to replicate enough “current” to keep a small clan of hillstream loaches happy?

I know it’s kind of a random question but has anyone tried to substitute like this before, or has anyone kept these little guys without a powerhead?

Thanks in advance!

I was thinking about using one or both of these items over a wavemaker.

The sponge filter has a directional output which could be cranked up.

I think your bubble wall is already good..as long as water in good condition, high oxygen and cycle, all fish love it

This idea seemed better at 1am, then I woke up and remembered how air works. Jeez I'm dumb.

I think this, or something like it, will be better, and it's relatively cheap.
