Air pump questions

I bought an air pump today
The whole point was to be able to replace the ten gallon filter unit in the Betta tank, because the water was fouled this morning and I felt that it might have something to do with me having baffled the output(no agitation on water surface)

So I used made this filtration unit

Now I realize looking at my work, that gravel is going to get compacted and I will need to adjust my plan...and I will need a loose-packed floss

But my focus right now is the air pump......is it normal for an air pump to vibrate when placed on a solid surface?? It's so noisy that the only place I can put it is on the soft lid....and it moves across the table

Any air pump I've ever owned vibrates on any solid surface. Setting it on a washcloth might muffle the sound it can cause. I have a dual air pump on a carpeted floor, and I can barely hear it.

Yep, totally normal What I do to dampen the vibrations is use a chunk of foam (styrofoam, yoga mat, filter sponge, et.) and place the pump on that.

Well it depends on how loud the noise is. Most air pumps will create a noise however some are really noisy! Personally I like the tetra whisper air pumps they are pretty quite compare to others

Hmmm, might remake the filter with longer air line then

Same here I use a piece of foam rubber and it works pretty good.

I have a small air pump running a bubble wand in a 4.3 gallon cube. I was lucky and have my aquarium set up near a closet with an outlet in it. I sat the air pump on an old sweatshirt, hooked up about 5 feet of air line, and shut the door. Now it isn't loud. The best way to muffle the noise of an air pump is to get it as far away from you as possible and then close it in a cabinet, or closet.

Lol!

I usually hide me in the closet for peace and quiet....well not really a closet, but a 9x13 bedroom might as well be once you drop a double bed in it
