Air Pump Planning

That is an interesting title I know. LOL.

I am planning out a rack that will house 3 - 20 long tanks.

The top tank will be divided into two sections and the other two will be divided into 4 sections each.

I am planning on having air driven sponge filters in each section of each tank (10 total sections - 10 total sponge filters)..

This is a total volume of 60 gallons, however, I am wondering if I would be better off grabbing an air pump rated for 100 gallons.

My thought is grabbing the 100 gallons rated pump will permit growth over time (I do intend to duplicate this rack in the next year or two), I will be able to over filter now if I feel the need (sometimes I like to overstock slightly to deal with aggression issues), and of course I will be able to accommodate any quarantine tanks I set up as they are needed/wanted.

Am I over thinking this or.....

your input is appreciated.

TopFin 8000 model is rated for 170g, and I haven't heard/read much bad about them. Having multiple tanks hooked up at different heights will reduce effectiveness slightly, but you shouldn't notice with shallow water. Plus its quiet!

Oh thank you.. Any special considerations when being that far overrated? (bleed of line etc..)

Its fully adjustable (dial, not sure if its shunted or an actual rheostat). Got one running a 55, a 23, and 2 splitters running 3 small qt/shrimp tanks each and its turned maybe 1/4 of the way up.

WOW that is great!!

I will certainly look into this pump. I was going to initially buy one of the Aqueon up to 100 gallon pumps.

I am trying to stay within a VERY tight budget, but it may be worth the time to use my old pump for the initial set up and save to buy this pump.

I am still undecided of course so I encourage others to throw their two cents into the jar.

correction I was looking at the Tetra Whisper that is rated for 100 gallons.

Yeah I noticed that when I did a search 5 minutes ago. I just got distracted and forgot to clarify. LOL. This is why I should not be doing this at work!!! !
