Air flow on an air pump

I have a whisper 60 air pump running a sponge filter on my 40 breeder. It seems like there’s too much air flow, am I ok to hook up one of those inline valves and just dial the air down or will that damage the pump?

You may need to add a bleed off valve. To do so you will need a t connector and a control valve. Cut the airline tubing several inches out from the air pump. Install the t connector between the 2 ends of the airline. Attach a short length of airline to the open end of the t connector and put the control valve on the end of the airline. You can open the control valve enough to bleed off excess air.

Perfect, thank you

Another option could be to add a Tee and add another sponge filter to the opposite end of your tank that should also lessen the flow and distribute the air to each filter. Then when you’re ready for another tank you will have a seeded sponge filter ready to drop right in. Your Welcome

I thought of that but I already have an Aquaclear on the other side of the tank, not too much space left
The air pump does have two outlets on it so I’m trying to figure out what I could use that other outlet for, if I ever did decide to run two I guess I could just run the second one straight off the pump

Even just a tiny corner sponge filter would be good or u could always add an air stone but I usually say if your gonna run an air pump u may as well have a sponge filter attached to it

For sure, maybe I can find room for a small one and would be good for a QT or new tank
