So I'm guessing no problems arose?

Nope! It is fairly fine though so make sure to have coarser filter materials in front of it or it will get clogged quickly.

I think some did say to make sure it doesn't have any chemicals, but other than that if it's good on that part, it's OK to use.

Does it stay open when it is wettened?
Letting through air is a bit different than water in my opinion.

Well I'm not sure but a contractor buddy of mine had a roll and gave it to me for free workin just fine so far. But yes it's very fine still need coarser foam
In font of it. It kind of takes the place of filter fiber. I I stretch it a little before putting it in seems to stay open.
