Aggressive neon tetras

I recently added 4 neon tetras to a 29g that already had 3 neons. The 3 are older and larger, and for some reason, the small ones seem aggressive towards them. They won't stop chasing them around and nipping at them. Is there a way to decrease this aggression besides adding more tetras?

When did you add them? They may just be establishing dominance within the new group as the new fish settle in. It may calm down with time.

They were added two or three weeks ago. They haven't caused any visible injuries or gone after other fish besides neons yet.

They may be males and the originals females.

The temperature may be over 74F therefore encouraging aggression leading to spawning behaviour.

Its more usual that the established fish are aggressive to the newcomers so this is interesting.

my neon tetras were aggressive with each other. It was mostly a territorial issue our 16 neon tetras would never really swim together unless I was doing a water change. They would just chill in their spots and chase each other away.
