Most work instantly, although if the instructions don’t say you could wait 5 minutes just to be safe.

been putting the water in right away and everything seems to work well; fish seem happy and healthy. I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Yeah, the bottle doesn’t have a time listed.

Depending on your species and age of fish... and what conditioner you use. Prime strips alot of oxygen out of water so I put an air stone to mix water and conditioner before adding it to baby fry tank or sensitive species such as hillstream leaches.

After my water changes, I start filling up the tank(s) with the same temp. and I add Safe about 1/2 way through. Been doing this over 45 years with out a problem

It doesn't. I added 40 mL of Prime to a 10 gal tank and the dissolved oxygen levels dipped slightly then rebounded quickly.

I know I have read this from time to time. I believe it was AvalancheDave who actually disproved this by adding way more than any of us would ever add to our tanks and the tests proved that it actually doesn't do this. You of course can continue running an airstone but his testing tells us it isn't needed.
nursesteveo I add prime while my buckets are filling. By the time the bucket is filled the water is ready to be poured in the tank. Lots of times I can actually smell the chlorine coming out of the faucet. The smell goes away as soon as the prime hits the water. It was the same with other water conditioners I've used through the years.

Yah I do it for no reason probably, but it does help dissipate that sulphur smell faster that prime has. I started doing it because one day my killifish fry started flashing gills after a water change and I assumed it was prime, never happened again though and they were all ok and healthy.
