African dwarf frogs

PJ1207

I'm not exactly sure where I would be asking this but I had an African dwarf frog die yesterday and he was my most active one of 3. Today when I went to feed all my tanks my 2nd one is belly up and floating around the tank whether face up or belly actually touching the top of the water. It is still alive but I have no idea what's happening. All of my levels are fine that I know of since I tested 2 days ago and when I sent pictures to my sister (originally her tanks) she said that there wasn't anything on its body that she could see to cause it to die and to ask about it here (if that makes sense). Also I have no idea where my 3rd frog went. I'm really new to managing tanks so any help would be greatly appreciated!

How old are they? They don't live longer than 3 years generally.

I only got them 3-4 days ago. My sister told me when she had them set up that whenever she got frogs they didn't last for her either so to be careful when I got my own.

Hi welcome to FishLore!

I'm sorry about your frogs :(
Can you tell us more about you tank? How many gallons,
Any other fish & how many?
The exact readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
Your aquarium info says you don't know about the nitrogen cycle. <<-should be a link
It would be a good idea to read up on that.
Temperature?
Is there is lid on the tank, if so are there any gaps at all? They can squish through very small gaps.
Are the frogs at the store where you bought them still healthy?

Sorry for all the questions. Even with the answers we may not figure out what's going on.
Often it seems, they are a weak stock or some eople have luck with them, some don't.

It is a 10 gal with a beta and 2 mystery snails. The tank stays at 75° and I do have a lid but there is maybe an inch behind it that is uncovered. I have a piece of plastic (you cut and shape to fit the tank) from petsmart that is covering the bigger portion to keep my cats out of the tank if they get curious and on the other side of the filter is an inch gap that I haven't sized the piece of plastic for yet. I haven't had a chance to go back yet since I worked late yesterday and had no idea about my frog until before I went into work. I am glad you asked questions so we can try to better understand and find a cause. The ammonia is at 0ppm, nitrite is at 0ppm, and nitrate is at 10-20ppm. I wasn't doing the nitrate test properly so that definitely could've caused me not catching it sooner. I've just been having issues with being able to tell on the ammonia if it's at 0 or 0.25ppm because I can't see the slight change in color for some reason.

With the information you gave, there isn't anything that stands out.
Maybe someone else will have ideas.

I wanted to add that my sister said to wait a week (her to come back from vacation so she could show me) to do a water change and give the tanks time to start out since resetting them up so I haven't done that either since it's only been 6 days that we set them up and she just left for her vacation yesterday.
