African Dwarf Frogs care info?

I currently have a cycled 10 gal tank that I would like to stock with African Dwarf Frogs. It has been a while since I last kept them, and I would like to be more knowledgeable this go around. I have an unpainted terracotta pot for hiding, a terrace-type thing for resting, gravel, fake and real plants, and a 20 gal HOB filter. Is there anything else that you guys would recommend. I love ADFs and I want to do my best for them.

 

It sounds great, Madison. Just the way you've asked the question and prepared and cycled their tank before bringing them home shows that you'll be a wonderful froggy mom. The only thing I would add is perhaps a sandy area for feeding or a large dish. The food stays on top for easier finding and keeps the tank cleaner too. Your frogs are going to love their new home.

Thank you so much, do you know what kind of dish would work best? I know they have poor site and want to make sure their food is easy to find. Also do you know if like 3 community fish would be alright? I have some in a small tank I want to relocate.

 

Many apologies for the late reply! My reading is pretty spotty at times and I'm bad with follow-up. Any kind of shallow dish or small saucer should work. The main problem with keeping them together with fish is again because of slowness in finding their food before the fish do. They'll spend more time defending their area against the intruders than hunting, and you end up with fat overfed fish and skinny frogs. A turkey baster can help, but some fish won't be deterred. What kind of community fish do you have?

I have a Betta fish, a mystery snail, and 2 glofish tetras that I am trying to rehome.

 

Hmm. That may be a little tight for the ten gallon long term but probably okay for now. I've had frogs with female bettas who weren't intimidated by their "tough guy" posturing, but not a male. Just keep a close eye on things and see how it goes.

 

Here's a video of the frogs with a betta. Contains some mild fish-slapping and stalking. I had a gravel substrate but had given up the dish because having several frogs they would just crawl over it and food would scatter.
