African dwarf frog bloated and red mouth

alee97

Hi all,

my African Dwarf Frog has exhibited very strange behavior yesterday in today. He is extremely bloated yet has not eaten anything in the past couple of days, and it is staying at the top of the tank just floating there. I thought it was dead so I removed it from the water and saw that underneath his mouth area it is red and looks almost bloody. I checked all the water conditions and everything is perfect, ammonia nitrate nitrate pH… and all the other living beings inside the tank or thriving. Is there anything I can do to try to save its life?
Couple more pictures... He’s back in the tank for now since he’s not dead.

I’m not certain on what it is but it could be dropsy which is a disease where your frog is swollen with fluids.

Oh, poor thing.
If you could tell us more about your set up it might be helpful.
What other tank mates? How many and what kind?
What size tank and fitration?
What are the exact readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate before the last water change.
How often are you changing the water?

Had you gotten the cycle under control since your last issues with high ammonia?
How long has it been stable? (if it has)

Sorry for the questions. We might be able to rule some things out.
