If there isn't a specific board for your species, feel free to post your African Cichlid pics here on this board. Once we get enough posts on the species we can move any photos for that species into posts inside the applicable species board. Also, comments on photos are welcome but please move side-conversations to another post.

Thanks,
Mike

-----

While your compliments on the photos are really appreciated, text-only posts will be removed after a while to keep the gallery pictures-only. If there is a discussion you do not want to loose, please start it again in a separate thread.

Thanks,
Armadillo

Female paratilapia polleni.
Can anyone help me sex my Paratilapia?

I just moved to Madagascar, and set up a 500L tank; managed to find this one by asking around. I think he/she needs a mate. I have plenty of young ones (a few months old) with it, but the big one is on its lonesome.

I'd say 95% female. The only 100% accurate way would be to vent it.
Here's a large male.

Thank you - very helpful - will look out for a male.

Only mildly disappointed in that we named her Vincent, after the van Gogh Starry Night painting (my son of course wanted Fincent)

She has some spirit this one - she bit me as i was cleaning the tank of algae today! I was closer than i realised to her latest hiding spot....

I just got these in today. They are fry from a breeding group imported from Aquahaus-gaus.
I think I'm in love.

I've kept a few male Calvus, but it has been many years ago. One of my favorites.
I don't see Calvus for sale very often anymore, but when available, they are expensive.
