African Cichlid Mix

Hayden2205

I recently bought a bag of CaribSea African Cichlid Mix and would like to know how much this will increase my PH. I was going to use this for my Betta tank but don't know if Bettas can handle the PH if it raises.
1) will this raise my PH. If so what will it raise to.
2) if it raises the PH can I keep a Betta in it?

Likely yes, exact numbers can't be predicted, though. It's still based on natural materials that may have slightly varying contents of minerals. Usually when using crushed coral or limstone (basically the same) water dissolves the material until saturated, usually landing GH at around 15, KH at around 10-12 and pH between 7.9 and 8.8.

2) if it raises the PH can I keep a Betta in it?

Technically yes, but Bettas are actually softwater fish, that prefer acidic water. So not a good idea to knowingly use substrate that raises pH and especially hardness.
