African Butterfly Fish And Surface Agitation

How much to ABBs like surface agitation? My kribs hate the flow when it’s aimed at the substrate but he seems to not appreciate the surface pulling him around all the time. Any help is appreciated

African butterfly fish seem like they don't like flow. They like to sit and wait in one place to catch prey, and fast flowing water makes it hard for them to stay still like they prefer to do.

 

Perhaps you can lower the flow and / or direct it into a corner where it won't swish the surface around?

 

Or a sponge over the end (or a spraybar) to diffuse the flow?

 

That isn’t a bad idea, I’m gonna try and find a sponge for the end.
