75 Gallon Tank Advice for Planted tank flow needed

BestFishTankGuy

Hey all I have a 75 gallon tank and an Oase Biomaster Thermo 600 with inline Co2 into a long flow tamer spray bar that is the length of my tank. I point it downwards and my plant pearling is amazing !
However I’m a little upset because I think I don’t have high enough turnover… my aquarium always develops a protein film because the spray bar needs to be angled down for the co2 to have a good effect. On top of it all I see plant matter or stuff floating around in the tank which is really obnoxious… I’m running something to agitate the surface of the water to rid the protein film but it does nothing about the debris floating in the water. I read that for a planted tank 4-6times flow rate was necessary and the oase biomaster provides 350GPH flow but apparently that doesn’t account for it having all the bio media etc. it’s upsetting that the filter was about $400 and sucks. I would hate to have to add another canister filter but I think it may be necessary, if I had known I needed 10x turnover I would have gone with a fluval fx4 or fx6 instead of having 2 filters. For now I am considering getting an aquael ultra max 2000 but I don’t want to have two spray bars. Can I attach a lily pipe to it? Is it common to have two canister filters ?Does anybody have any advice ?

Ps I attached some photos of my tank… it’s not finished yet it needs many more plants
I forgot to add my stocking
12 panda cory
12 otos
10 bettas (8female 2male)
9 cherry barb
9 harlequin rasbora
6peacock gudgeon
2angel fish
1panda Garra

im concerned that if I add a second filter it will have a high flow and bother my fish… I already had to purchase a flow tamer spray bar once… will I have to take the flow again considering my stocking ? I want high turnover and slight surface agitation but my stock prefers to have calmer water. So preferably something

Nice tank! I always assume that I'll only get about 60% of the manufacturer's stated flow rate so that I end up with enough turnover. Two canisters is not uncommon at all. I have two on my 64 gal. You should be able to swap the spray bar for a duckbill type outlet. Or add a Fluval 407 instead, they come standard with duckbills. You can angle (buffer) them against the glass or decor so that they don't contribute too much additional water movement.

I guess it’s inevitable to get a new canister filter. So as many inputs as I can would be great ! The fluval is a great idea though I think I want something that’s moves more water and I’ll have to find an attachment that greats a gentle surface agitation .

Any outlet attachment can be adjusted to provide as much or as little surface agitation as you need. Either by angling them up or down or by increasing or reducing their depth from the surface.

I doubt your problem is your filter. You just need a surface skimmer. Try adding an Ehiem Skim 350 to the tank or a surface skimming intake to your filter.

That’s the answer I wanted to hear but I think two filters would be better because my heavily planted tank along with trimmings has way too much debris floating around. It doesn’t help that my intake is also hidden behind the plants. Honestly I just went to petsmart and the fx4 and fx6 were on sale for $100 off each ! The fx4 was 220 ish. Wow.
anyways I’ve already ordered the Aquael ultramax 2000 :)
