Advice for locating escaped tangerine crayfish?

Hi, my 6 month old tangerine crayfish Sammo escaped his 20 gallon long yesterday. I can’t find a hint how he did it or where he has holed up. Does anyone have any advice on the behavior of these guys outside their tanks? Are they likely to climb, search for water? Nocturnal? I’m devastated. He was very charming. On the other hand his last molt gave him very big claws, so.... respect on the tiny chance he’s alive.

 

Get on your hands and knees and start looking. Lift up anything he could possibly be under. They can survive quite awhile out of water. If you have cats or dogs, he probably got eaten.

 

I have caught them in the wild with hotdogs. Maybe put some hotdogs near possible hiding spots?

 

They will crawl around the edge of the rooms looking for water, and eventually hide between or under things until they dry out and die. Unfortunately they won't survive more than a few hours if they can't find water or somewhere damp, as they will dry up.

Just don't put it on the carpet lol.
I would also check Every crevice of your fish tank, sometimes fish/inverts can be really good hiders.

 

Not a problem for me ive got all wood or tiles.

 

You need to put some shallow containers in each of the corners of rooms with water in, he will make for water, just keep checking

 

When one of my crays escaped, I made a water trap by melting a hole in the side of a plastic cup juuuust higher than it could reach from the bottom of the cup and filling it with water. Then make a little step up to it. I would put those everywhere
