Adopted another guinea pig!

I've been looking to adopt another guinea pig for about 5 months now...I've searched rescues, craigslist and shelters but no luck. I wanted the exact same look like Peanut (who passed away in January) but adopting never works the way you want.

I was on petfinder.com this morning and notice a guinea pig that I liked was still on the list...so I called to see if she was still up for adoption and she was... The lady on the phone said someone else called an hour before me that was also interested in adopting the same piggie. I dropped everything and drove to the county shelter.

I got there and said I'm here to adopt a guinea pig. She showed me "Phoenix " and I noticed another piggie with her...I was told both were seized by animal control for poor living conditions. I didn't have the heart to separate them so I told the lady I want to adopt both. The second guinea pig was on veterinary hold and needed to be cleared (injuries ).

I told her to get the vet so the piggie can be cleared to be adopted. She said that all the vets were in the meeting and I can take home only one....I then said, I can wait until the meeting was over...an hour and half later the meeting ended and the piggie was cleared to be adopted.

Awww...what beautiful little gals! How nice that you kept them together.
Are they with the herd or do you give them a bit of a quarantine time?

You have a big heart AP.

They are currently in quarantine for a minimum of 2 weeks. They are currently in the guest room I want to make sure they are healthy and carry no critters to introduce into the herd. As a precaution they are going to be treated for mites and get a bath tomorrow.

Now the hard part is telling Dave He rarely goes upstairs so I think I can keep it a secret for a couple weeks until his parents visit.

HAHA can't you just not say anything and see if he notices???? Kind of like sneaking fish in the tank?

Well congratulations! They are beautiful!

Oh my gosh! You didn't tell Dave? That's hysterical!!
If you get passed Q time with him noticing I can just see him glancing in the pen saying..wait..whose that?

Or, like my roommate, pretend he's "forgotten" what their names are so as not to let on that he's behind the 8 ball

I'm terrible >

I'll just have to use my line, "we talked about adopting more guinea pigs and you agreed, don't you remember?" I told you that they were in quarantine and are being introduce into the herd, I can't believe you don't remember" lol

Also he's going on another business trip next week

The first 24 hours I just left them in the guest room and only fed them and peaked in from a distance. I want to give them some time to get situated to their surroundings.

This video was taken before I cleaned out their cage (fresh new fleece) and also gave them a haircut and bath. Both smelled really bad and the texel still had fur mats so I had to cut them off. Now they are cleaned up in a fresh cage.

They are so adorable!!! Your cage is massive! How many pigs do you have? I have only one girl pig at the moment. I used to have a male, but he passes away before Christmas. His name was Chester and he was an abbysinian. He was cute and always happy. I planted carrots, his favorite treat. My current piggy's name is Coco. Her nickname is "Purr Purr" because she purrs almost always when I pet her. At the end of August I am getting two more girl pigs. I'm getting them from a friend who is very experianced with guinea pigs. Sh's giving me a bigger cage which I will connect to mine with a ramp. I also use fleece. I absolutely love when pigs 'pancake'(flatten themselves out). It's so cute!!!!
