Adf has new red spots on his head? Is PH the cause?

So my African dwarf frog male has always had a tiny little bump in between his eyes on top of his head but today I came home and saw it had become a lot bigger and red, he also has some redness towards his snout and a super red streak under one side of his mouth. As you can see below it looks pretty bad. At first I though it looked like ammonia burns so I tested my water but the ammonia and nitrite are all at 0ppm, the nitrate is at 5.0ppm. BUT the PH is at around 7.5-7.8, so I was wondering could this be the cause? I also have an old heater in there that could possibly have burned him since it always seems to be on more than my other two tanks with the same heater. Or is it the dreaded chytrid infection just showing in an unusual way :,( here’s my boy. Please give your thoughts on what this is

I just wanted to add as well he lives alone in the 5 gallon as his two future roomies are still being quarantined in another tank.

The Ph seems fine for ADFS and they can tolerate a ph a little high. I would replace that old heater with a good one because since they are raised it looks like burns to me. Also I’m happy your giving him tankmates because too many frogs are alone. Please Keep me posted.

I noticed today he’s also being lethargic, unresponsive, and I haven’t been able to get him to eat in days. I’m so worried! I’m gonna replace the heater but I’m still confused as he’s definitely acting sick

Hmm well that’s a problem! It could be a bacterial infection. do you have a thermometer in the tank? If so, what’s the temp? I would contact a local exotic vet to give you meds for the infection and to consult .

I’m a high school student, I can’t afford a vet sadly ).: I’m doing my research on chytrid fungus and methods of treatments so I’m gonna try my best to help him without a professional. My plan so far is to replace the heater, buy another floating thermometer, and use a very small amount of aquarium salt to hopefully help the red spots heal.

Ok good just try all your other options first. I would do the same thing. Hope he gets better!

I think I just witnessed him have a little seizure and now he’s laying head down in the gravel and being very unresponsive, I thought he was dead so I poked him with the turkey Baster and he flicked it away with his foot but it’s really not looking good rn :( I’m so confused what happened. The water quality is all fine, and he’s in solitary so how did he get sick?

I got and installed a thermometer for the tank yesterday and it’s said 25°c the whole time just like the other two tanks, it mustn’t’ve been the heater. I’m so confused but as far as I can tell the temp, and all parameters have been good. Whatever took my froggies life I just hope doesn’t spread to my two new girls. I have such terrible luck keeping adfs and have never managed to keep one for over 1 year but they’ve never gotten sick on me before, I just used to try and house 2 males together but they would fight each other to death and I would end up with only one every single time. I’ve never had a single frog die from a sickness or anything though ): if anything happens to the girls I’m just never getting frogs again as it’s clearly not meant to be for me.

Awww I’m sorry once again. This happened to one of my bettas once where they died and I just couldn’t figure out why. Housing 2 females will go better, and I only recommend 2 in a 5 gal. If you need any more info DONT hesitate to ask☺️
