ADF floating

Hi guys. My boyfriend decided to get 2 african dwarf frogs for his 3gallon tank yesterday (its being upgraded to a 10gallon). They were both exploring and swimming around like normal last night, but all day today one of them has been at the surface floating around somewhat swimming when he floats to the filter. Is he dying? A small small fly did land in the tank last night and one did eat it before i could get it out, did he get bloated from it maybe??

Tank info:
Size - 3gallons (upgrading to a 10 asap)
Substrate - sand
Plants - live
Filter - Topfin betta flow 1-5gallon

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20/30

Hi
How is it doing this morning? Sometimes they like to hang at the top, maybe getting use to the new tank, the current is too strong or the other hand it can mean something is wrong.

I doubt the fly caused an issue.

Maybe the frog could’ve gulped air when catching the fly?

From what I’ve heard, nitrate needs to be kept below 20mg/L for ADFs to survive, because they absorb water, and the compounds in it, through their skin. Maybe this could’ve poisoned the little guy?

Upgrading to the 10 gallon is a good idea, because in a small area there’ll be competition for space.

I wasnt planning on him getting adfs, i was thinking betta thus the 3 gallon ill do a water change to lower the nitrates. Would nitrates kill one that fast but not the other?? The other one seems 100% ok so far
