just set up my aquarium and can't find how much dosage I should put into my take here...
I have a 20 gallon and haven't done anything except add tap water and start the filter flowing...

now its time for me to add these to the tank but I'm not sure how much to add of each, could someone help me out?
I'm sorry if this has been answered before ...
also to add I will be opting for option 1 of the nitrogen cycle

thanks for the help in advance

HI welcome to FishLore!!

It's really not recommended to use the product Cycle. It doesn't contain the correct bacteria. You'll need to use it for every wate change.
Since you're doing a fish less cycle, just let the bacteria grow naturally.

As far as a water conditioner, you can use one that doesn't detox or remove ammonia since there aren't any fish. The directions should be on the bottle.

Good luck!

I wouldn't use Cycle. If you haven't opened it, take it back.
I'm surprised they're not more specific on the directions.
Are you sure it doesn't say add a cap full for a certain amount of gallons?

oh my goodness after looking at the bottle for 10+ mins I found that the directions are under the label, what a weird place to put them eh?
anyways it says :

1capful=5ml

to remove chlorine 5ml treats 10/us gallons
to remove chloramine 10ml treats 10/us gallons
to protect scales and fins 10ml treats 10/us gallons

so should I add 2 caps for chlorine,4 caps for chloramine, 4 caps for protecting scales and fins?

I'm sorry I'm so bad at math x

Since you are going to cycle fishless, you could go with 10ml (two caps) for your 20 gallon tank. When you say option 1 of the nitrogen cycle, what do you mean?

You can keep the cycle bottle for emergencies later (it may be useful in specific situations, like improvised short term quarantine or aiding a disrupted cycle). It does have the "wrong" type of bacteria (heterotrophs) instead of the "right" ones (autotrophs) but they don't compete with each other. The "right" type is for free, available in the air we breathe and will end stablishing in your tank if certain conditions are met (ammonia /ammonium source, dissolved oxygen, temperature).

Most water companys in the US use chlorine and chloramines. I'm not sure about Canada.
To be safe I would use 4 capfuls for 20 gallons.

Check with your water company to see if they use chloramines.

You might want to look at Prime. 5 ml treats 50 gallons.
I can't find my smaller bottle, where it tells you the does in drops for smaller tanks.
I think it's 2 drops per gallon, I'm not sure.
Sounds like it would be less expensive or at least a bottle would last longer.

Edit: Pepe, option 1 is the fish food method.
Also, I very respectfully disagree with the dosage you recommend. If there are chloramines in the water source, they will surely hinder if not kill the bacteria.

hey what I meant by option 1 was adding fish food to the tank every 12 hours oppsed to adding ammonia//

ok so are you sure to add just 2 capfuls? or should I add more?...will I need to add any more of the aqua plus conditioner at any time in the next week or should I let nature take its course and test water in a week or so?
I know it will be roughly a month or so until I can even contemplate adding fish

again I'm really sorry for all the questions, I am new and will pick this up in no time at all

Don't worry about asking questions, ask as many as you need.
You'll just need to treat any water you add whwn you top off due to evaporation.

I don't know what nutrafin max is. If it's food, just a pinch. Add too much and you'll have a mess. I know from experience! (eww lol)

You can start tonight. Also since you don't have fish, you can hike you heater into the 80's and add extra aeration to help the bacteria.

Oh, I forgot to say, I agree, what a silly place to put directions!

We won't hold you to the promise of no more questions tonight.

ok so I added 4 caps and put a pinch of food in there... there only seems to be about a capful and a half left in the bottle( 6-7 ml), can I add the remainder to the tank or would that be harmful..
I just don't wanna carry around a tiny bottle with barely any conditioner in it

thanks
