Adding more zebra danios?

Hello everyone,

I am new to FishLore, and to caring for fish. Thank you for having such a great forum and resource.

I am using Tetra SafeStart and three zebra danios to cycle my 36-gallon bow front tank, which was just set up. I noticed tonight that one of the danios has a chunk taken out of a fin.

I've learned here that zebra danios can be nippy when they're not kept in a group of six or more, and I was planning on adding more after the tank cycled, but since they're nipping, do you think I should add three more now? Or is it better to wait until the tank has cycled and hope the fin nipping doesn't get too bad until I can add more then?

Thank you for any advice you might have. I would appreciate any help.

Honestly, a bit of fin nipping is not worth interrupting your cycle. Adding fish while using TSS almost always causes it to fail, so it would be best to wait it out, then add 3 or 4 more danios once the cycle is complete.

While I agree with Junebug, I have to deviate a little and say if the fish are doing too much nipping, you may want to complete the school and add another bottle of SafeStart.

I used to have a 36 gallon bowfront (actually I still have it, I'm just not using it). I liked the tank a lot.

 

I agree with jdhef. Also, I add this: If your tank hasn't been cycled after a long time, then I'd add more zebra danios.
