Adding a Giant Plakat Betta to a 55 Gallon Community Tank

Hi all.
I have a 55 gallon heavily planted tank with 15-20 kuhli loaches, 6 Boesemani Rainbow juveniles, a 2 inch male opaline gourami, and 6 platies.
I have a 13 5 gallon betta tanks, with one male per tank, and a 20 gallon ADF tank. Anyway, I noticed that one of the betta I bought seems to be a giant plakat. I initially though he was a she when I first got him. He is now about 4 inches long, and I’m feeling poorly about keeping him in the 5 gallon. Would it be safe to add him to my 55 gallon community tank, or even the 20 ADF tank? I don’t want anyone to get hurt in case he turns out to be aggressive, and I have no way to know as he’s housed alone. I haven’t found anything definitive on their aggression levels online. I can also certainly get him a ten gallon of his own if that would be best. Thanks for any advice!

 

I would try the ADF tank before the 55. Who knows what will happen with those gouramis + betta

 

I would try getting one of those clear breeder boxes and put the betta in that so he can see the other fish and the fish can see him and he can hopefully get used to the tank slowly girl talks fish has a great video on adding bettas to your community tank

I read a lot about this too as I have a giant betta in my 60 with lots of community fish and ADFs. I read online it’s a hit or miss just like any male betta. I have regular bettas in all my tanks but this was the first giant one. He’s about 6 inches.

At first he chased fish away from his spots but never attacked. Once he settled in he became very fat and lazy but seemingly happy and peaceful.

I think it’s like any betta like the Internet said, just depends and no sure way to know except to try. I’d try when I had the whole day to sit around and watch him.

I tend to think betta aggressive to the point of injury towards other fish is rare. Personally I’ve never experience it out of 20 or so bettas over the years. The fiestiest were always really young. But they’re just too slow to matter.

Now I will say my giant one is extremely fast and strong compared to a normal one so it makes sense to be extra cautious.
