Adding 2nd Canister Filter

I have a 120 gallon cichlid tank which is fully established and running fine. Was wanting to add a 2nd canister filter on it for additional filtration. My question was whether or not I need to do anythign special when adding this 2nd filter. I know people talk about seeding a filter. Does this apply with adding a 2nd filter? Just don't want to cause any shock to my fish. Any help would be great. Thanks!

How big is your canister now? How big is your new one? Just fill it with quality media and put it on and plug it in. That's all.

You don't need to seed the filter if the existing one is working fine however If you wish to get it up and running quicker take a few pieces of media from your existing filter and swap them with a few from the new one. A second filter is a good excuse to add media types you didn't have room for in the original filter such as chemical media such as carbon or zeolite

ZachHawks , liveaquaria has the Eheim 1200xl (2080) on clearance for $123.

Pump rated at 450gph and it's 3 main media trays hold 3 gallons total of media.
